Fairhaven Trophies - CANCELLED Rules

1. The Championships shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited, and Local Rules as approved by the Championship Committee.
2. All competitors must conform in all respects to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by R&A Rules Limited.
3. The R&A Rules Limited Condition of Competition (1st January 2010) relating to clubface grooves does not apply.
4. All competitors will be required to play with golf balls which are on the current list of ‘The Conforming Golf Balls’ issued periodically by the R&A Rules Limited. A List of all conforming golf balls is available on http://www.randa.org/en/Equipment/Equipment-Rules.aspx Penalty for breach of condition: Disqualification.
5. Driving clubs must not have a characteristic time greater than 257 microseconds when measured on pendulum testing apparatus approved by R&A Rules Limited – see also Appendix II, 5a of the Rules of Golf. A list of all conforming driver heads is available on http://www.randa.org/en/Equipment/Equipment-Rules.aspx. Penalty for breach of condition: Disqualification.
6. A competitor shall not knowingly make use of any drug to enhance his/her performance. Attention is drawn to the list of prohibited drugs issued by UK Sport http://www.uksport.gov.uk/ Any competitor infringing this condition or, if asked to do so, refusing to take a test, may be disqualified.
7. Competitors shall walk at all times during a stipulated round and will not be permitted to ride on motorised buggy carts without permission of the Championship Committee or on-course referee. Penalty for breach of condition: 2 shots, maximum 4.
8. The Championship Committee reserves the right to fix and/or alter starting times.
9. Late attendance on the first tee will be treated with strict adherence to Rule 5.3a – i.e. up to 5 minutes late will attract a 2 shot penalty applied to the first hole and any later will result in disqualification. To avoid the risk of penalties competitors are asked to report to the official starter at the first tee 5 minutes before their starting time.
10. Pace of Play – the policy of the Championship Committee is that the Pace of Play will be strictly applied. A ‘Pace of Play’ sheet will be provided with each card describing the full conditions.
a. Time allowed for the round – each hole is given a maximum completion time and this information is printed on the score card.
b. Out of Position – the first group will be considered ‘out of position’ if at any time their cumulative time exceeds that allowed for the number of holes completed. Subsequent groups will be considered ‘out of position’ if they are more than the starting interval behind the group ahead and has exceeded the time allowed for the number of holes completed.

i. One Bad Time Warning
ii. Two Bad Times 1 Stroke Penalty
iii. Three Bad Times A further 2 Strokes Penalty
iv. Four Bad Times Disqualification
11. Any competitor who during the course of the championship, including the practice day, misbehaves by, for example, swearing, throwing clubs, or vandalising the golf course or clubhouse, fails to comply with the regulations for the practice round or for the practice ground or acts in any manner which might bring the game into disrepute may be barred from continuing in this championship and from entering or taking part in future Fairhaven Trophies for such a period as the Championship Committee may decide and will be reported to their home club, county or country union, federation or association.
12. The Fairhaven Trophies shall be played by Stroke Play over 72 holes. 144 competitors, of which 120 will be boys and 24 will be girls will complete 18 holes on Friday 30th April and 18 holes on Saturday 1st May 2021. The Championship Committee reserve the right to adjust these numbers to ensure the maximum number of entrants is achieved.
13. After 36 holes, the leading 34 boys and ties, together with the leading 6 girls and ties, shall play a further 36 holes on Sunday 2nd May (a 2-tee start may be used if qualifiers exceed 48).
The winners shall be the boy and girl who return the lowest score over 72 holes. In the event of a tie there will be a play off over 4 selected holes and if this does not produce a winner there will a ‘sudden death’ play-off over the same holes, until a winner is established.
14. The Nations Cup shall be played over the first 36 holes. The best two 2 scores from each round to count toward the team 36 hole aggregate total.
Each Union/Federation may enter teams, consisting of up to 3 players of which no more than 2 can be of the same gender, subject to fulfilling entry qualifications to the Fairhaven Trophies. In the event of a tie, the winner shall be decided in a similar manner to that detailed in section 19 of the General Conditions Relating to the Championship using the aggregate of the two counting scores of the team.
The names of each team and its members are to be made known to the Championship Committee before the commencement of play. Substitutions may be made, provided the replacement fulfils all the age and handicap requirements, at the discretion of the Championship Committee. Any such replacement will take the starting time of the Player he/she is replacing. (There will be NO exception to this condition).
15. It is expected that play on Saturday will be completed by 8.30pm and the cut and starting times for Sunday will be completed as soon as possible thereafter. The telephone number for evening enquiries is 01253 736741 (option 5) and the Sunday Starting Sheet will be published on the Fairhaven website www.fairhavengolfclub.co.uk and Clubhouse notice board on the Saturday evening.
Suspension of Play due to a Dangerous situation. Model Local Rule 8j within the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf is in effect. The signals shall be:
 Discontinue Play Immediately: One prolonged note of the siren
 Discontinue Play: Three consecutive notes of the siren, repeated
 Resume Play: Two short notes of the siren, repeated
16. If it becomes impossible to complete the Championship in accordance with the Conditions thereof because of adverse weather conditions or other circumstances which, in the opinion of the Championship Committee, make it impossible or impractical to do so, the Championship Committee shall be empowered to vary such Conditions to the extent necessary to achieve a result within the time available.
17. All disputes shall be settled by the Championship Committee (three to form a quorum) whose decision shall be final.
18. All ties, except those of the Fairhaven Trophies, shall be decided on the last 18, 9, 6, 3, 1 hole(s) in that order. If a tie still arises, it shall be decided by reference to each individual hole on the first 9 holes of that round commencing at the first. If a tie still arises, each of the preceding rounds played shall be treated in the same way (taking each round in the reverse order to that in which they were played) until a decision is reached.

General Information

1. Practice:
i. A courtesy practice round, for competitors only (when only one ball may be played) is offered at Fairhaven on Thursday 29th April 2021, between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
ii. Starting times must be booked through the office +44 (0) 1253 736741 (Option 2). Times for the official practice round can be booked anytime after the official draw has been made.
iii. Practice rounds at other times can only be on payment of a reduced green fee of £45.
iv. There is a practice range and chipping/bunker green at Fairhaven where competitors may use the golf balls provided and collected by the Club. For safety reasons balls must be struck from the designated areas and competitors must not use their own balls or collect balls that have been struck. On competition days competitors will be allocated balls prior to play. Any additional balls required after play maybe purchased from the Professional.
2. Caddies: Caddies must be under the age of 18 at 00:00hrs on 1st January in the year in which the Championship is to be played. Penalty for breach of condition c): Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred. Maximum of four strokes per round
3. Registration: Competitors are requested to register from 7.00am on Friday 30th April 2021.
4. Dress: Dress in the Clubhouse is smart casual
5. Catering: A full Clubhouse service and menu (breakfast, lunch & tea) will be available from 6.15am on all competition days.
6. Mobile Phones: The use of mobile phones as a telephone is not permitted in the Clubhouse or on the course at any time, with the exception of use to call a referee or report an emergency.
7. Prizes and Vouchers:
• The Fairhaven Trophies – The trophies will remain in the possession of Fairhaven Golf Club. The boy and girl winners of the championships will each receive a commemorative silver medal. Prize vouchers shall be given for leading places, the value and number of which will be determined by the Championship Committee.
• The Fairhaven Trophy Nations Cup – The trophy will remain in the possession of Fairhaven Golf Club. The members of the winning team shall each receive a commemorative medal.
8. Presentation:
• The Fairhaven Trophies – All prize winners are expected to attend the prize presentation, which will take place shortly after play on Sunday is completed. Prize winners are expected to be suitably attired.
